Will only taking one AP course senior year hurt my chances?

I am going to be a senior in high school and am really interested in Rutgers University - New Brunswick but I will be only taking 1 AP course senior year, being AP Computer Science. In my high school, they limit students to only 2 AP courses per year, and most are able to take them only junior and senior year. No student in my school has taken more than 4 and the average student takes about 2-3, even though my school offers about 10-12. I tried taking 2 AP courses senior year but every course I attempt to add will interfere with my other courses. (AP Comp. Sci. A, Honors Physics, Honors English, & Honors Pre Calc). I feel that these courses are important to take and I do not want to lose one of them for an AP. Will this hurt my chances for getting accepted into Rutgers?? My gpa is a 3.9 and I have taken all honors Junior year and one sophomore year.

Have you taken foreign language through level 3? Bio and chem (at any level)? History courses?
Honors English, H precalculus, and H physics are indeed quite important. You also need one history (world, European…) or social science class (economics or government, typically) and, if you’ve not reached level 3 in your Foreign Language, one foreign language class.

I’ve done Spanish 1 & 2 sophomore and junior year, Honors Bio & Honors chem, and world & U.S. history 1 & 2 up to junior year, last year being the only honors for history.

Honestly your course load does not seem all that rigorous, even if it is almost the max your school will allow. Of course it is ultimately your guidance counselor’s opinion, whether s/he will check the “most rigorous” box on his/her LOR, so you should probably check in with him/her and ask. I would take either AP Physics 1 or an AP English class to get up to the two that your high school allows.

I agree, AP English would be very important, as well as a social science (if AP English conflicts, then take AP gov or Ap Econ?) And since you’re aiming for your state flagship take Spanish 3. (Stopping at Spanish 2 is going to raise eyebrows considering competitive students applying to Rutgers have level 4 and AP, and level 2 is more appropriate for Ramapo, Montclair, etc.)

I think you’re fine you take all honors and your GPA is very high. If your sat score is high then you’re a shoo in. If your school doesn’t offer they won’t hold it against you.
I’m not sure they care too much about AP’s so long as you have somewhat of a rigorous courseload
