Will Plagiarism/Cheating affect on transcript?

i recently got caught for having the same answers on a group labs as my partners
apparently we couldnt use the same answers for the group lab
my teacher is reporting this to administration at my high school.
this is my first offense and i see it as relatively minor
but will this go on my transcript and/or will colleges see this
and how will this affect my applications??
thanks in advance

This will not appear on your transcript.
This will appear in two other places on your application:

 1. you will have to answer in the affirmative when the application asks the discipline question
 2. your guidance counselor could possibly include this incident in the school letter.

Thanks for the reply, my guidance counselor is very nice and I don’t think she would include it. It sucks how I’m getting reported though, it was a group lab :/

You are using the word “apparently”, as if to say that you didn’t realize that you were violating your teacher’s expectations. If that is true, then you should start by having a conversation with your teacher before this incident goes to the administration and becomes part of your record.
Nice or not, your guidance counselor has to answer the discipline question honestly and the time to manage this is before it becomes official. Obviously, you should involve your parents at this point, too.

If it was implied the group could work together then this isn’t a problem. However, I think it really is. If you were told you were to do your own work on the labs with the group having the same measurements (as it was when I did group labs) then this is flat out wrong. In that case you decided to cheat.

If you’re suspended or otherwise disciplined for it, then it will appear on your counselor’s recommendation / school report and you will have to report it on your portion of the application.

If you are not formally disciplined for it, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

Discuss it with your counselor and ask how (if at all) it will appear on your college applications.

talk to your college counselor at ur school as soon as possible, it varies with schools and she might have to report it, but you might be able to repeal it and have it stripped from your record.

i will not be getting any disciplinary action for it, besides a zero on the lab and a plagiarism report thingy to my school administrator
