This Fall I'll be going into my third year as a Mechanical Engineering major at UC Berkeley, and my GPA is 3.71. I really want to go to graduate school to pursue a Master's Degree, and at the moment plan to apply, in order of increasing preference, to UCI, UCSD, UCLA, and Cal for sure.

I look at UCLA as the first school on that list that I would be 100% happy with, and I was wondering what my chances would be to get in if I maintain a 3.7+, do well on my GRE's(at least slightly above average for a UCLA engineering admit), and obtain a solid internship during Summer 2013.

Also, I plan to apply to a non-research based program. I need to decide whether I want to pursue research this Fall. Will research experience be an important factor in graduate admissions to non-research based master's programs, or is it fine if that is something I lack?

Thank you to everyone for your time.
