will rowing crew get me into harvard

i row crew at the state level for new delhi,India.I was in the top 4 of my class in 9th,top 3% of my class in sophomore year, but due to some problems i messed up my junior year(got only 51% marks ).Now I'm in the senior year.I've got 2000 on my SAT,and will give sat 2 in physics and math in november. It was awarded a certificate and cash prize for topping in english in my sophomore year.I have a pretty solid essay explaining why i got such low marks in 11th and how I overcame the setback .I have no other extra curriculars or achievements.Do I have a chance in Harvard? And also can you suggest anything i can do to improve my application?Your opinions will be much appreciated.Thanks.

Rowing crew will indeed get you into Harvard. The Dean of Admissions personally sends all rowing crew applicants a hand-written acceptance letter.

Athletic prowess will help an otherwise highly qualified student at many very competitive universities stand out from equally qualified students and gain admission. It will not generally overcome severe academic deficiencies, except at universities that value athletic reputation more than academic integrity. I’m not an expert on Harvard admissions, but I doubt you’re in the running.

Your scores look low for Harvard as a rower.(Try to shoot for a 2100.) Recruited rowers at Harvard tend to be nationally ranked, some Olympic level. If you are trying for the heavyweight team, how does your size compare to the current roster, where most H hvywt rowers are 6’3" to 6’5" and over, and 200+ lbs.?

If you read the threads at the Athletic Recruits section of CC, under Specialty Admissions, you will find what sort of erg times you need to be seriously considered.

Generally, the scores of rowers are quite high as so many come out of boarding school rowing programs.

@ fauve-im 6’3" and weigh 190 pounds.

ok by ur responses it seems unlikely i’ll ever go to harvard. But I’m also comfortable with any other ivy league college.Do i have any better chances in any other ivy?And can i consider purdue a ‘safety college’?Thanks

What is your erg score?
