Would starting and running your own online business help you get into Wharton? I am in the process of launching an online business.

generally i do believe you would call that a hook. you a junior in hs?

I'm a sophomore. What's a hook?

hahahahahahahah, oh young grasshopper, perhaps you should revisit us in a year....

a hook is something that sets you apart from all the other super-uber-well- qualified aplicants in the pool. (common sense: most applying to penn will have same kick butt grades so they will only pick the special kids).... hooks for example are if youre an eagle scout or founded some organization in your school or community or if you have unique travel exp or really cool prestigious award. got it?

I'm an eagle scout too. I didn't think that would help much compared to the kids that invent something or disprove a mathmatical theorum or something.

looks like youre building a solid app. early.

I am pretty sure starting and running my own business is precisely what got me into Wharton.

hey
i started a business online selling not too long ago. I did most all the work myself and explained it in my essays. i got flat out rejected ED and my grades and score weren't far off the mark...my college advisor found out from penn that one of my essays was a bit risky. So, lesson is that it may help, but i dont think itll get you in if everything else isnt there

Schiller, what was your risky one?

it was an essay i had written in my english class specifically to fit one of the creative essay options. in the essay i mentioned skipping some required meeting on diversity at my school and wrote about how nice it was to get out of the school routine even if for only a few hours, and what i did during that time. they didnt like the fact that it was a diversity meeting. funny thing is, i mentioned in my other essay how my school is one of the most diverse in the country and how much i appreciated this. apparently, this didnt quite sink in. in hindsight, i never shoulda used that other one i guess, but what the heck, if theyre that uptight about it, maybe its better that im not there
