Will SAT II exempt me from foreign language requirements?

I took Spanish I and II during freshman and sophomore year of high school. I am currently a senior and while I would like to take Spanish III, it would mean sacrificing one of my AP classes (most likely Environmental Science or CompSci). Freshman year, however, I took the SAT II Chinese Listening test and scored a 770. Will this make up for the missing year of Spanish in the eyes of admission officers?

no

If I were you, I would drop either APES or Comp Sci, which ever one you are least excited about. Many claim that APES is considered an “AP lite” course by highly selective colleges, and most colleges recommend three years of a foreign language. Taking a subject test (and getting an excellent score like yours) is great, but I think what they are usually interested in is not your level of proficiency, but the dedication and curiosity that is demonstrated by learning a foreign language. That is shown by taking the class, not the test.

Are you a heritage speaker?

It depends on the college. California public universities accept a high enough SAT subject to fulfill the foreign language admission requirement (but not necessarily a foreign language graduation requirement). But some other colleges may want to see actual course work in a foreign language.
