Will SAT Math <700 ruin my chances? Please help!

I just applied Early Decision to Brown, and I really want to get in. I was looking at the stats on CC for students accepted last year, and almost ALL of them have 700+ on every section of the SAT I. Then I read on another thread that an adcom said, “Brown now pretty much wants the math and verbal scores, at least, to be over 700.” But these are my stats:

Highest SAT I: 800 V/800 W/670 M.
4.5 weighted GPA, in the top 4 of a small, selective private school (though we don’t release rank).
750/SAT II Lit and 740/USH.
5s on AP Chem, USH, English Language.
Deeply involved in many ECs- Editor in chief of Literary Magazine, News Editor for the newspaper, journalist for my county newspaper, multiple publications and awards for my creative writing, a job for 10-15 hours per week, more than 250 hours of community service.
I think my personal essay was very unique and expressive of my personality/interests. I am caucasian, and I don’t really have a “hook,” but I am very passionate about writing, and I even sent Brown an extensive portfolio of my best poems.

I am so freaked out that my horrible math score will doom my application from the start. Will my other scores/talents/ECs make up for this, or will it be a definite black mark against admission? Please help!

If another just about your age or younger came on here and told you that it wouldn't ruin your chances would you be satisfied?

The numbers are posted by CollegeBoard and the schools for a reason. It baffles me how some paranoid applicants feel comfort in a peer assessing their chances.

There is a secret to being accepted into college....

...BE YOURSELF

You'll end up where you're supposed to be, and the only dissatisfaction should come from not trying your best. I doubt that any student doesn't try on the SAT, so don't worry about your scores.

The discrepancy will hurt. But play your strengths. If writing and verbal are your strengths, show it. (Your e/cs do this already!)

Olam, what state are you from?

I am interested in this because you are basically the same person as me. This kind of worries me because I like to think I'm unique. Sigh.

No, it won't matter. Your other scores are awesome. Relax.

Thanks to all of you for the encouragement. And yes, alvy, I know it's ridiculous to rely on the advice of students who may not know my chances any better than I do. But in this incredibly stressful time, I guess I just wanted some psychological comfort (and from the number of stats posts on CC, it seems lots of people are just as nervous as I am).

And elweezer: I'm from good old NJ, luckily for both of us. After I saw your comment, I checked it out, and we are really similar...let's just hope there isn't someone ELSE like us in either of our states who's ALSO applying to Brown ;)

I really hope your joking, your scared cause you have a score of around 2300?
No offence at all, but seriously I think you have issues....jk lol

Well, you're extremely strong in verbal/writing so not to worry. The math score's not horrible, and your other strong scores can overshadow it. Your strengths are your literary skills, which are pretty amazing.

Your combined score of 1470 should protect you but there is a definitive way to find out. Go look at your school's scattergrams for Brown.

You're FINE
