I am wondering if it helps if I visit Northwestern University. Any comment is appreciated.

They won't impressed if you live in Chicago and don't bother to visit. Visit only if you really want to see the school before you apply, don't just visit because you want an "edge" in your case for your admission. You won't stand out at all, because a ton of students visit.

My son never visited and he is going this fall.

when you visit they ask you to fill out a visit card. according to northwestern's common data set, level of applicant interest is a "considered" factor in admission. You do the math.

i visited last summer, but i didn't do it just to look good for adcoms. back then i knew little to nothing about the college admissions process. i just visited because i'd heard good things about the school. and my grandparents live in chicago.
i'm glad i visited. i think it'll help me write a better 'why NU' essay in the fall.
