Will spending my summer travelling hurt my chances of transferring into a good school?

I am going to be taking some summer courses after the Spring session because I want my summer to be productive. I initially thought of taking two summer sessions lasting the whole summer - but I really want to go to Europe alone, a trip I have been saving up for and dreaming about for a really long time.

The reason I ask this is because:

  1. I have one B- from last semester(the rest are As and one A-), and might be getting two A minuses this semester (or one B and one A minus instead, but two As for sure - I have four courses). I am determined to prove my worth, and that’s why I want to take these summer courses - I want to get good grades and have a fuller transcript that shows consistent academic excellence. I thought if I have two summer courses in addition to the traditional Fall and Spring semesters, they will together paint a better picture of myself as a student who works hard consistently - because that is who I am and I do not want these Bs dragging me down.

BUT

  1. I’m afraid taking two summer sessions will cause me to burn out and ruin the Fall semester.

I am not worried about excess credits, as the UCs accept 60-90 credits for junior transfers. Additionally, I think they might save me a semester later as I plan on doing a Co-Op (my major is Computer Science).

Basically, should I not treat travelling as a priority right now and focus instead on acads/fruitful activities like volunteering or reading or learning a new skill etc?

Thank you for your input.
