Will starting a business help my chances?

Business is a profound interest of mine, and, throughout my application, I feel like I’ve demonstrated that interest. I have some national awards in business competitions and am involved in relevant clubs at my school. Right now, I’m working on starting my own business and plan to have it fully functional in the next couple weeks. I just realized it might help bolster my college application too.

Also, just to clarify, I’m making the business solely myself with no help from my parents, using my funds from my job as a tutor to pay for inventory and other necessary materials. I think it’s an interesting idea, my business model, and it definitely has a market. I have 600 Instagram followers currently following the business’s online presence, and am working on making the website less buggy and more aesthetically pleasing in the coming weeks. I was just wondering: how successful must a business be in order to make the student business owner more appealing to colleges?

Again, I’m not creating the business for college. I’m creating it for myself, and mainly in order to accrue experience since entrepreneurship is likely the path I’ll head down for the remainder of my life. I was just wondering if it’d help me some in the college game as well, as a less important consideration.

It won’t help your chances now. It will look like a desperate attempt to pad your application. Focus on the things you have been doing for years.

I’d say it might help at little if lots of people use it. For example, I’m a high school junior and I made my own app. I have over 250,000 users worldwide. That’s notable because my software tool off and people actually use it.

Only if you make significant profit.
