Will Subject Test Scores Hurt Me?

I got my March SAT scores back and got a 2390, which I'm thrilled about.

However, when I sent my scores, I didn't realize that my 700 Biology SATII and 710 US History SATII also got sent. If I'm looking at the top schools (HYPS), will these scores diminish my chances in contrast with my high SAT I scores?

Also, I'm planning on taking three more subject tests this year -- if these other ones are better, will the presence of these lower scores hurt me?

wow, get a life dude.

a 2390 + 710 + 700 is amazing. stop trying to get your ego stroked, because it seriously won’t happen. and i’m pretty sure that if you got a 2390 you’d have the brains to know that your test scores are amazing.

yes they will. your 2390 is meaningless.

in all seriousness, all your test scores do for you in terms of top schools is NOT eliminate you automatically. you’re better off worrying about something else, like being captain of the competitive eating squad, or constructing a house out of renewable resources, or composing your next opera.

I had no intention of sounding cocky; I’m legitimately trying to get a sense of how much weight top colleges place on SAT Subject Tests.

Low 700s are a bit low for HYPS, but nothing to freak out about.

HYPS will only look at your top three subject test scores. If you score higher on your future tests, they will use those.

relax. If those SAT subject test scores were from classes you took as a Sophomore, then you probably do better on the next set of subject scores. But, I hope you realize that you will need to apply to more than just HYP, as most applicants to those schools will also have impressive test scores.

What if you send your SAT Subject Test scores to schools that don’t require them and they are low? Will the schools not care? I’m going to bomb Math II (I had no idea it was so hard), but I can’t seem to choose to not send scores to colleges on collegeboard.

haha you’re worried about those… my SAT subject tests were 730, 670, and 620 and my SATI was 2200 and I was accepted to Harvard and Yale… you will be fine ( I don’t have any hooks and am not a legacy or anything like that). The admissions want to see that you have a love of learning, etc. and are not just a 2400 SAT.

uh, future subject test scores past 3?
that’s stupid. why on earth would you take that many? they don’t LOOK at more than 2 or 3 usually.

The Math II test has a generous curve, so once again relax, focus on doing your best in this round and you can always repeat subject tests June or Oct, in since you don’t have to worry about taking the SAT again. And your SAT and GPA are more important than your subject test scores.

re # 10. Some highly selective colleges may want to see specific subject scores- i.e. math, english, language. For Schools like HYPS, good scores over a broad range of areas helps to reinforce and validate the rigor of an applicants transcript.

Typically, a 750+ on subject tests is ideal. But your scores are okay.

Don’t worry about it, but it won’t hurt to send more right?

Dont worry about it. I have a theory about subject tests: TAKE AS MANY AS YOU CAN. Get a few more 750+s and your set.

Why is it that people on this forum are increasingly so derisive and sarcastic? Yes there are a few people who have a massive ego. But there are a lot more who truly have no clue about how HYPS and other admissions work, are legitimately concerned, and are just asking a reasonable question.
