I've had a really hard semester (1st sem sophomore year) and I'm probably going to end up with 4 B's and 2 A's this semester, mostly because my finals have been messed up by an unexpected death.
I want to switch into regular history for second semester to bring my GPA back up and help with stress, but will this look like I'm unable to handle the course work and am therefore a weaker applicant?
If it helps, I'm in Spanish 2, Anatomy, Honors English, Trig, and Chemistry as well, so it's not like I have a weak schedule.

The questions you really want to ask are “what will look worse” and “realistically, what can I handle?”

My personal feeling is that if you can pull a B or better in the AP class (and you can manage the stress), you should stay where you are. Don’t switch just to move from a B to an A.

It won’t look great.
