will switching sports look bad on college apps?

Hi i have been on the girls golf team at my school for 3 years, but i want to switch sports and do cross country my last year as a senior. Will this look bad on college apps? I am worried it might make me seem uncommitted to the sport as ill have only done 3 years and then take off to do another sport.

No.

You shouldn’t live your life trying to look good to universities. If you want to run cross country, then you should run cross country.

most colleges give minor or no weight to ECs as you can see by looking at the Common Data Set for schools you are thinking about. So for them, it won’t matter.

At highly selective colleges merely being a member of a team is a weak EC (no matter whether you belong for 3 years or 4). So for them, it won’t matter.

Conclusion: it won’t matter.

Unless you were going to be a recruited athlete for golf it won’t matter.

Anecdotal evidence is not proof, but I had 2 kids admitted to Northwestern that were 2 sport athletes and dropped 1 sport after Soph year to concentrate on a different sport. And I agree 100% with @DadTwoGirls - do what YOU want to do.
