Will taking Honors Math make it or break it for me?

Hello fellow CCers,

As many of you know, most applicants to competitive colleges take all honors courses. Next year, I will be a junior, and my schedule currently consists of 3 AP classes, 3 honors, a 1 advanced math course, which is Pre-Calculus. There is no extra GPA weight, so for all practical purposes, it is regular. Will not taking honors math hurt me in the college application process?

Math is a very difficult subject for me, and I already work very hard to maintain an A in advanced. I was recommended for Pre-Calculus honors, but it is a notoriously difficult class that I would not be able to maintain an A in consistently.

I am not sure how relevant this information is, but I plan on majoring in the humanities and not anything math or science related. All of my ECs are centered about the humanities as well.

Thank you!

Be aware that philosophy is a humanities subject that requires logical thinking similar to that done in math.

It is important to take Math…but if Pre-calc is what you can handle then do that.

If you were recommended for Pre-Calc honors then go to the teacher who gave the rec and tell him/her your concerns about pursuing it. Often there isn’t much difference between honors and regular. You probably wouldn’t be recommended if the teacher didn’t think you would succeed at it.
And for the record…
Succeeding does not mean you need to get an “A” every time. It means you learn something that makes you progress in life.
