Will talking to the College Coach help me with admissions?

Today i had baseball, and i told my coach that i got a letter saying that i should send anything that will help me with admissions, because i meet most but not all of their requirements for plattsburgh. My coach suggested that i get in contact with the baseball coach, and make a video of me hitting and fielding for baseball. He said that if i do, since its a division 3 school, that hed put in a good word for me at admissions saying that were going to need this kid (me) for the team. So do you think this actually might work? any help would be appreciated.
I also don't know how i should word it, like I want to tell the coach i was pretty much rejected from the school and not force him to put a good word in for myself, so thank you for your help

Hi, I read your post several times and the facts are not clear to me. I suggest you try telling your story again. Questions…
1. Were you already rejected from Plattsburg?
2. Are you a junior or senior?
3. Have you ever been in contact with the college coach?

I do believe that your hs coach can advocate for your admission. But I am not sure if that is question.Or… are you asking whether the college coach can help with admission?

Another question, are you planning on playing baseball at Plattsurg? You don’t mention anything about recruiting or playing in college other than in the context of the coach getting you in by saying he needed you for his team. It would be unethical to have the coach “put in a good word for me at admissions” unless you plan to play baseball if you get in.

Yeah sorry guys i was tired when i wrote this hahaha so i will rephrase. 145bluz:
I wasn’t rejected, but i wasnt accepted. I received a letter saying i meet most but not all of their requirements and they advised me that i send anything that will strenghten my candidacy for admissions. I am a senior. And no, i confused everyone with what i was saying hahah i told my hitting coach who has no contact with my hs that i got a letter from plattsburgh. He said i should make a video and send it to the coach at plattsburgh, so i am trying to write that tonight.

fishymom: Yes if i get accepted, i do plan to play at plattsburgh.
Sorry for the confusion guys

Hi
Thanks for the clarification…This is what I would do:

1. Call the Plattsburgh coach and explain your situation. Ask to meet him asap and give him the video and resume. If you cant reach him talk to assist. coach. If that is not possible send a copy to admissions to forward to the coach. In the last case, a letter from your hs coach recommending you could be helpful to include with video

                            2. Then, if you have not done so, do the same with any other college you are seeking admission.

ok. thanks a lot for your help, i really appreciate it !

I’m gonna be plain and direct, it can help if the coach has some juice…

has/he or won a national championship? a division or conference championship? do the his/her athletes graduate in four years with outstanding gpa’s? does the coach even like your athlete enough to even consider going out on the limb? In my experience I’ll say I’ve seen national championship coaches go out a limb and fail and then other times see it’s no problem—other times I’ve had a coach just say it’s not happening and I really can’t do much of anything…

He has not one anything great, because its a division 3 school up on the border of Canada so it’s mainly a hockey school, but he is the most winningest coach at the school. My hitting coach pretty much said that if he is interested it could help me because in a non stereotypical way athletes tend to have lower GPA’s, so id be one of the more qualified applicants, and they’d most likely need me. I am just having trouble drafting the email because i dont want to be like hey put in a good word for me at admissions, its not right to obviously say that

If this coach wants you he should have no problem putting in a word for you at admissions. If this is the school where you want to go, just be honest and tell the coach a) you really want to attend his school and B) you are concerned you may not get accepted as they are asking for more info and would it be possible for him to assist with your admittance in any way.

ok thanks alot momof2010, thats what i was thinking. appreciate the help!
