Will the "eyes of Texas be upon me?"

so here is my story. I'm a freshman at UT San Antonio and I want to transfer into UT Austin for Fall 2011. Currently, I have 15 hours completed with a 3.8 GPA. Next semester, I'm positive that I can maintain the same GPA along with completing 30 hours. I'm trying to transfer into the Communications college with a major in Advertising and a minor in Urban Studies (liberal arts program). This past summer I've also been working with the Austin Film Festival and SXSW to build up my resume. UT Austin is very competitive and I know as an incoming sophomore transfer that I will have to compete with all the CAP students. So what I'm asking is: Am I in good standing for admission this coming fall?

From my knowledge of UT, I’m going to say that you seem to meet the criteria. They accept a huge mass of automatic admission undergrads (myself included) and this makes it more difficult for others, but your gpa is great and you seem to already have affiliations with the school, not to mention that transferring from a smaller UT branch to the Austin one is common practice, so I’d say you’re perfectly fine

What a small world… I’m also a freshman at UTSA, but I’m CAP. I’m curious why you didn’t choose the same route I did. Furthermore, you will not be competing with any CAP students because they are automatically admitted. You will be competing with other transfer students. However, with a 3.8 GPA I think you’re more than set to get into a non-competitive school at UT Austin (Liberal Arts, Natural Sciences, etc)… If you were applying to McComb’s that would be a different story. Just keep the GPA 'til the end of next semester and you’re good. Hook 'em Horns!

Not accepting cap: Long story short, my adviser said CAP would be too stressful and that transferring in would be easier. Thanks for the response!

hey, JaeL254, so which schools at UT Austin are considered non-competitive? I applied for computer science through natural sciences and was warned that it’s pretty competitive.

i think the easiest schools are UT are the ones that CAP students are automatically accepted to (so natural sciences, liberal arts, undecided)
