Will there also be DHS rejection letters?

I applied for the DHS and had a really good chance at getting it.
Unfortunately, I haven't received anything yet.
I'm fine with not getting it, but I would at least like some sort of closure. That obviously won't matter if I don't get it for the next couple months, but as this week's been pretty racking, I'd like to know if Tulane sends out rejection letters to all those that applied as well.
Has anyone gotten one, or know if Tulane does?

I have heard that they do send out letters to nonwinners.

Well that’s good. Thanks for responding!
It could be taking a while as I do live in Utah and things take forever to get here - UPS and normal mail.

Had not heard of rejection letters going out in past years. If they do this, it would probably be something new.

Just curious-- why did you think you had a really good chance of getting the DHS?

My ACT score was a 34, I have perfect grades with AP classes, and my project was pretty unique and interesting - at least that’s what most people told me.

I view it as like applications to the top ivys. Lots of great candidates, only 75 of the 1000 applicants get the nod. Even if half the applications were not strong candidates (an overgeneralization, but for sake of discussion), thats still only a 15 % acceptance. Lots of strong candidates apply for this wonderful scholarship. Good luck, but, unfortunately I would think you’d have heard by now. Next day UPS should have delivered all by now.

Ah, well, that sucks, but I’ll be fine  Thanks for your help!

yes, son got rejection letter yesterday. dated 2/22 sent by regular mail

They said on the chat the other day, that they would be sending out letters to the non-winners during the week.

I guess this shows they do listen. People were not happy before that letters were not sent to non-winners, and I know that Tulane Jeff, at least, reads these posts. So while I imagine the people that didn’t win are disappointed in most cases, at least they now know for sure.

Not to be picky, but I wouldn’t call them rejection letters. More like results notifications. I am sure that doesn’t help much, but they really didn’t reject you. The person that comes in 4th in figure skating at the Olympics isn’t rejected, the judges just thought 3 others gave a better performance that day.

very true fallenchemist… they also make that point in the letter… “I do want to remind you that the faculty has selected you to be a Tulane Presidential Scholar. As one of our most outstanding students you will receive 25K …you have also been invited into…Tulane Honors Program”

A few years ago when my oldest daughter applied for DHS, I don’t think you even found out about the Presidential until you got the rejection for DHS. She was applying Katrina year, so it just may have been done differently for that one anomalous year, but I know the first letter was a brief nice acceptance letter (still to Newcomb College for women). Then later they sent the Honors letter. Finally, you got the DHS results and the letter said so sorry you didn’t get DHS, but you did get $X (Presidential was a little less back then, not $25,000). I guess the upfront scholarships with your admission letter generate a lot of enthusiasm for Tulane, but first notice of the scholarship with the DHS “rejection” did take some of the sting out of that.

That’s really interesting. I can see a lot of “merit” (hahaha) in that older approach, but I guess doing it upon acceptance has the benefit of getting families excited about Tulane very early in the process, as you say.

We got our rejection letter, too. Now keeping our fingers crossed for the Community Service Scholarship.

Hmm, still haven’t received anything. Thanks for all the input guys! And Gabby congrats on your DHS! :D

Do you think all ‘rejection’ letters for the DHS awards have been sent out?

^^I don’t think any of us would know that. If you applied for the DHS and did not get a letter (or package) yet, I advise that you call or e-mail your admissions counselor.

I believe in years past that there were no rejection letters mailed for DHS applicants… you only got notified if you were a winner.

hovermom - that’s true, but apparently this year they are sending out letters to non-winners (I reject the term “rejection letters”, lol). See posts #8 and above on this thread.

Have all the letters gone out for DHS for both winners and non winners? We have not received either one and the website stated letters go out at the end of February. Yikes!
