Will these scores really hurt me?

I am applying early decision but I just got back my SAT II scores and they were really bad.

Math II 640
Spanish 580
:-(

My UW GPA is 3.9 and my weighted is 4.52 (ranked 17/312). My SAT scores weren't good either (680 math, 620 reading, 700 writing). How much are my SAT scores going to hurt my chances?? I would really appreciate an answer!

From what I understand, Emory really does not care about SAT II scores....unlike some other schools. Your other scores are fine. I wouldn't worry.

You definitely have a shot, I know people getting in ED with 1900s SAT and no SAT II scores.

thanks so much for your responses! I've been freaking out all day...

I'm a Emory sophomore...and I never even took the SAT 2s. Since they aren't required, don't submit them if you're at all worried about the scores. They could have only helped...lack of the scores won't hurt.

I suggest that you take the SAT again. It can't hurt and you could stand to bring them up. Study beforehand a little!

retake. These are bad scores

he doesn't have time to retake, does he? your scores are fine for Emory, not scholars tho. SAT II's won't hurt you, they can only help you if you do good.

For the Emory Scholars consideration, are SAT II scores needed ??

The adcom said during the information session I went to, that they wouldn't even consider SAT II scores. She said to save your money and not bother with them.

He might be deferred, if so retaking could be advantageous. The 1300 on the CR+Math is well below average for Emory so, IMO, retaking is good advice. I think their position on the SAT II's is that they will consider them if submitted.

Uh, not well below....It's at the 25%...... Nevertheless, if Emory is TRULY your dream school, take the SAT's again and apply RD.....Explain that in your essay......

ok, well I applied ED and sent my stuff in yesterday. I'll be taking the SAT IIs again in December so if I get deferred, hopefully my new scores will help me (they got sent it, too).

Thanks for everyone's advice!

P.S. I'm a she, not a he :-)

yesterday? isn't the deadline the 15th? Anyway, good luck, hope you get in

If Emory is truly your first choice and you effectively communicate that to Emory's admissions committee, you have a strong chance of being offered admission. While a 1300 won't get you a scholarship from Emory, it certainly puts you in a competitive position in light of your stellar GPA. Much will depend upon your application and recommendations.

The deadline is November 1st for early decision. I really want to go to Emory and I really tried to relay that through my Why Emory essay. Thanks for all your advice and good wishes!!
