We're supposed to have had 20 community service hours for NHS by Friday (hours only count if they were done after induction, which was November). I've done about 15. I just might have to BS those last 5. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for community service, but I have a VERY busy life during the school year. So, if I do this, would it ever be even feasible for me to get caught?

I've probably obtained 200 community service hours since the start of high school, 100 last summer alone, and I even have a prominent role in a summer relief-work organization. Problem is, those from last summer DON'T COUNT! I'm a good person, I swear! Does anyone know if they actually verify these hours? Thanks! :)

Not to be immoral, I would strongly advise you to put in half a days service somewhere local. They would have no way to check, however, if you did lie. Your call, but you know what they want you to do, even if you did hours during the summer that count. Hope this helps!

Really depends on the school and the person running NHS. How do you guys confirm the hours? No one has to sign off on them? If it is based on the honor code, then go ahead and embellish a little, don’t crucify yourself over not having enough time to fit 5 hours of service.

At my school, the teachers don’t really care if someone doesn’t complete their hours, you just have to explain what happened, why you didn’t have time, etc.

NHS is BS, anyway…dont worry about it

if you have to put down a place where you did them (or give a phone number, name etc.)
and they actually call…then you’re effed.

But there’s like 150 kids in NHS. Are they really going to call every single phone number on every single person’s sheet?

You have to record the activity, get a signature, and write the phone number.

how many kids are in your grade? i’m curious because in my grade of 350 we have almost 100 members, which I thought was ridiculous.

Are you completely inept? They will obviously not verify every single person’s hours…

~250

(150 includes juniors as well as seniors.)

@newsperrys: actually some schools do. In my school teachers had a meeting for one day just for that (they called every number). I only know that because i got a couple hours from my scientist and when i went to lab one day, he was like “oh someone from your school called to confirm your hours.” But i guess it does depend on your school…only 44/540 kids in my school are in NHS.

But honestly, if you had since november to get 20 hours, you should’ve done it. THAT’S ALOT OF TIME. In my school, we had to get 50 hours in 2 months, and i got it done somehow and my schedule is reallyyy hectic. But since it’s due this Friday, i guess you have three options. 1) don’t turn those 5 hours in, 2) get those hours done what ever way possible or 3) make up your own letter, and put down a friend/sibling’s number so that if your school does call, the person can confirm it. lol

It’s five hours… Just do it
