They care if you don’t take classes you said you would take, but they don’t care at all whether you take the test (AP, IB, etc).

Once it gets to their decision date (e.g. May 1), if you didn’t reply it is the same as declining those other schools. Declining is more of a courtesy or manners issue, although it might let them open up a waitlist a bit sooner if someone gives a definitive no early instead of just letting the time for a yes elapse silently.

Your acceptance is safe. Planned AP or IB tests are generally inconsequential.

Last year I notified Cal saying that I wouldn’t be taking the AP bio exam. They OKed it.

OMG. okay…u said they don’t do it for APs. but i read on the irvine sheet that i got sent, if u take less rigorous courses that MAY cancel ur admission. so my situations kind of different. i said i would take calculus 3 and calculus 4 but i am also taking other college classes (and this isn’t part of my high school). will THAT matter? im scared cuz i never imagined getting into berkeley and that would suck to have my admission cancelled lol

@berry14, you are fine if you are doing MORE than what you said you would do. The wording on the provisional admission contract is harsh because the UCs want to discourage students from dropping AP courses after the UC application deadline.
