Will this affect my financial aid at my CC?

I’m a high school senior and had three college courses this year that were three credit hours each through my local CC that were free and paided for by the school district. The first course I had I made a C- in and the next course I had I made an A in the class and the last course I made an F! I am worried because my college GPA is now a 1.9 and I might not be able to receive financial aid because my overall GPA is below the SAP requirements. Can someone give me advice on what I should do?

Were those courses to satisfy high school graduation requirements?

You need to as the CC you will be attending. I thought SAP applied to matriculated students…and you were NOT one in HS…but the CC will be able to tell you!

If indeed you didn’t meet SAP, all schools have an appeals process. Find out about that.

There are community colleges that take dual enrollment grades into account when looking at SAP. I have no idea if all do, but I know that some do. You’ll need to contact the school to find out if you have SAP issues and if so, whether you’ll have a warning status or a suspension of aid.

I think a big question to ask yourself is WHY did you do so poorly in two of your classes? Knowing the answer will be relevant if you need to appeal a suspension of aid, but it will also be crucial in coming up with a plan to succeed at college.

If you are attending the same community college what’re you took the courses in high school it is part of your GPA in your his case yes, it can hurt your financial aid because you will have to get a couple of A’s to counterbalance the F and the C-

It depends on the school. Is C- considered a failing grade at your CC?

A grade of C- is not considered failing (at most schools if you are failing, you will receive an F), but a C- is below a 2.0 gpa, it is not a transferrable grade and contribute to a drop in your overall GPA

@kelsmom Can you chime in here. It doesn’t sound like FA was used for those classes.

To the student: Can you retake the F class this summer and get an A in that class? If not, then can you quickly take a couple of CC classes over summer in easy classes to boost your GPA. If you got 6 more credits of A’s this summer, that would fix things, right?
