Will this count in my GPA?

I found a bunch of 1 unit "kinesiology classes" that are just things like ping pong and volleyball where you go and play for a couple hours a week. My CCC says they're UC transferable and I want to take one to bump my GPA, but I'm not sure if it will count because it's only 1 unit. I talked to a counselor (who was horrible, kind of just DGAFed me) and he said because I'm taking such a high unit major (BioChem), schools like UCLA would disregard it from my GPA. If anyone knows anything, please let me know so I can either take it or drop it. Thank You!

It will count towards your GPA. That said counselor is a Buffoon. There are no good counselors at the CCC level. Although it counts, 1 unit courses have little to no effect on your GPA. plus I think it’s usually reccommend that you take said course pass/no pass.

Our State CCs require students to take PE classes. The large state Us do not count those credits at all (not in GPA and not toward required credits). Probably the UC you are transferring to will give you the best answer.

Do the UC’s just look at GPA as a total or will they look at every class I took? I can’t imagine they would go through every application, even after screening out the bad ones.

@uclaplz - The UC’s will look at your GPA as a total not just course by course and they will include the KIN class(es) you take into your GPA.

That being said the 1 unit classes usually would only, assuming you have 60 units done, change a 3.3 to a 3.33 so if you rly rly need that .03 then do it why not, but at this point it’s kinda late as they won’t truly include spring grades in their admissions process unless you are appealing and even then a .03 difference will make almost no difference.

UCLA I’m guessing is where you want to go, and overall GPA is most important but they do calculate major GPA as well separately but not nearly as much emphasis is put on it as the overall GPA.

Thank you very much Matt, I appreciate the information. I think I’m going to drop it and just focus on my studies. Also I didn’t apply this cycle so I still have some time to take some of those classes if I really need the boost.
