Will this effect my chances? please help!

So Im about to be a sophomore in high school. I took advanced art freshman year, but not taking any art classes sophomore year (i dont know what i was thinking when i picked my sophomore courses). I will take art junior and senior year though. I was worrying about this... Since I wont be taking art sophomore year, will it affect my chances of getting in to a good art or fashion school (like parsons, csm, FIT, etc.)? I don't want them to think im not dedicated to art, because I honestly really am... It's too late to change my classes so im stressing out. So what do you guys think? will one year of not taking art in high school make a difference for them to decide whether or not I get in to the school? sorry if this sounded silly, it's just been bugging me!

I dont think it will matter at all really, i would just focus on solidifying a decent GPA, and focusing on art related extra curricula’s that would show them real world experience, passion, and talent.

It won’t. I know people who never took art classes in high school, BUT they worked on their portfolio through out high school. As long as you keep working at it, you’re good. You could join or start and after school portfolio club. Me and my friends did and by senior year we all went to Portfolio day at Hartford University and we had great portfolios to show. If you get an art teacher to just sit in and give some portfolio advice, it’ll be really beneficial.

Portfolio, portfolio, portfolio. These are the 3 most important things to get into any art school. A few also want to see GPA, standardized tests and recommendations.

I suggest continuing to take art but you can do it outside of school. Get individual lessons with an artist or something like that. My D took music lessons at school during lunch all 4 years of high school with a teacher. You can probably fit it in your schedule if you really want to. Ask if you can go to the art studio during lunch instead of the cafeteria. It takes discipline and dedication but my S who is in an art school now always says art is food to him and often takes the place of real food. The guys that do well have a passion so strong that they sacrifice for their art.
