Will this help me?

Im a junior in high school who started off 9th grade pretty badly (2.7/4.3). I didn't care about school at the time but now i do and my gpa rose from 2.7 to a 4.0 in my sophomore year. I'm really interested in engineering and one of the things I'm looking to do in my free time is to learn code (javascript etc.). I really don't know anything about it but I kind of enjoy these kinds of geeky things. The question is will this look good on a college application to MIT or another top engineering university?

PS I'm not doing this for the sole purpose of getting into a school like MIT, I'll learn code whether or not it'll help me... I just want to know that if i put all this time and effort will it help me in the future?

definitely it will look good that you are passionated about something, but you should know that there a lot of people who are really passionate about something. You have to show them that you are doing everything about your passion (being involved any clubs any competitions)

I wouldn’t say that it would ‘help’ you to have an upward trend, but it would definitely take away a lot of the negatives of your bad freshman year
