I have taken two years of German at an ivy league university through a high school program. There will not be enough people for level 3 German next year. I will persue learning another language through the program. Do you think these classes give me a leg up in the admissions process?

They may help you in the idea of having a rigourous curriculum, but since I'm not an admissions officer, I don't know for sure.

of course they will help, but they won't be nearly enough by themselves or enough to save a completely unfocused app. Good luck!

The rest of my regular high school curriculm is focused with all honors and AP classes where offered. I decided in my freshman year that it would be fun to take German, so I went for it and got accepted into the program. I get elective credit at my high for doing this. It shows up on my transcript as an actual grade.

Two years of a foreign language isn't all that impressive. It would be more impressive if you found a way to continue with German, even if you did it through self study. If you then did well on the SAT II German, that would demonstrate to colleges your talent and passion for learning something outside of your curriculum.

I may independent study for the SAT 2, but German is not the only language I take. I've taken 5 years of Spanish also. I also hope to become an exchange student next summer to help with my German, but also to learn more about the culture. Plus this program is an actual class, outside of school, that I earn credit for at my school because the principal approved it. I am taking advantage of my options. The classes is free for around 200 students that go to around 20 public schools in the area. Other languages that are not usually taught in high schools are offered.
