Will this hurt me... GPA change?

Hi Fellow CCers!

So at the end of this year with 4 AP classes and one really tough (tougher than all my AP classes) honors class, I was able to scrape by with a final average gpa of 4.82, which brings my overall high school GPA to a 4.62 (my freshman year gpa was a 4.35 and that brought down my GPA a lot, but I've improved grade-wise every year since). The problem is that this summer I will be taking a online financial lit class because it is required in our school, and I don't want to spend an entire year during my senior year to take it. The issue is though that this class is CP level, so it will actually bring my junior year GPA to a 4.76 and my overall high school weighted GPA down to 4.59 and that's if I get an A+... the great fluctuation in my GPA from a 4.6 down one whole tenth to a 4.5 is really concerning for me since I plan on apply early to 7 year med programs most of which applications are due in november (so my first term senior grades won't be counted by then yet). (my school also only gives weighted GPAs so colleges won't be seeing the unweighted, which would go up) I was just wondering if colleges will be understanding of this situation? or if there was anything I could do to make them aware? any advice and insight would be greatly appreciated! especially from those with a similar experience!

Your GPA is beyond almost 99% of the kids in the nation. Stop flipping out and relax.

Colleges see your entire transcript, so you’ll be fine if the rest of your grades are as good as you say they are.

Just wondering does this apply to schools like Hopkins, Penn, Northwestern, Duke? Since they are already amazing schools, would they just glance at GPA since they have sooo many applications or do they actually sit through to read the transcript?

Here, I found this while looking through the Harvard forum the other day. It shows just how closely admissions officers look through applications.

The change in GPA for taking 1 required regular class won’t harm you in the slightest.

Ok thank you soooooooooooo much ybrown234!!! I’m sorry I was totally flipping out over grades for no reason! That definitely helped calm my nerves!! Thanks again!

Haha no problem. Yeah, I’m a rising senior and that definitely calmed me down, too.
