The semester ends Friday and my grades look like this:
-AP Psychology- B plus/A
-Honors Spanish 4- B
-Honors Physics- B
-Theatre 3- A plus
-AP English Lit- A
-AP Government- B
-AP Statistics- D

Yeah ouch. But AP Stat is an extra math credit for meand it's obvious from my transcripts that I'm bad at math. How bad is this going to hurt me?

it depends on where you’re going to college and what your intended major is. Some colleges don’t look too much into your math grades if you’re going into a more artistic field. However, a D is never good. It’s definitely not going to help you. Is there any way you can get your grade up or rework your schedule so you don’t have to take AP stat?

I applied as an English major. There’s really nothing I can do. I mean it’s obvious from my grade trends and my math SAT score that I’m bad at math. Also like I said I don’t need this class to graduate with an advanced diploma. I might try to switch out next semester but then I’d have to contact all the colleges I applied to and tell them that I dropped the class. I don’t know how good that’ll look. Thank you for responding.

What colleges are you applying to? If you are only interested in large, numbers-driven schools, then the only hit will be your GPA. If you are hoping for a highly selective school then your chances of admissions are greatly reduced.

I would say that your opportunity for dropping the AP Stats class passed as soon as the D was posted to your report card. My advice now would be to simply buckle down and get the grade up this semester. College won’t have a chance to see the improvement before making a decision, but it will be good for your confidence heading into college to know that you have succeeded in a difficult area that is not your strenght.

a D looks bad on any transcript. it shows lack of effort and poor judgement. OP, if you are bad in math (as you stated) and intend to major in English, why taking this AP class ? it is a fatal mistake.

Agreed, you definitely should not have taken AP Stats if you’re bad at math, then again, that is poor judgement on your guidance department for letting you take it. I wouldn’t drop it though because that looks worse because you gave up and quit. I would talk to your teacher and get extra help. That really the best option.

A D does look bad, but if you have amazing qualities in other regards to make up for it you aren’t completely screwed. But yes, to answer your question it is going to hurt you badly.
