I'm planning on only taking four classes senior (next) year. They're all APs though, and two are the most rigorous and teachers strongly advise against taking them together.
English, psychology, physics, and Calc bc.
Will this look bad to colleges?
I plan on applying to:
Rutgers (first choice, rest in no particular order)
Barnard
RPI
MIT
Yale
Cmu
Neu
Lehigh
UMass
BU

I don't want to kill myself next year, but I don't want to look bad compared to other kids. But I don't want to take an AP just because, that's bad too. The only ones left are bio and Chem, and I hate them both, but if my honors Chem teacher teaches AP I'll do it; she even asked me to.
I need help......
Thanks & no rudeness/sarcasm please !

Is there any particular reason you are only taking four classes? For example, I am taking 5, but so I can get out of school early for an internship. Also, as Billy said, what’s the normal course load? At my school it is 7 w/ a study hall, but lots of seniors take 6 so they get early release.

I do think those four are a pretty good course load by themselves. If there are any interesting classes that you could take, even non APs (for me this would be stuff like philosophy or sociology), that may be better. But, honestly, I wouldn’t worry about it.

BTW, Physics C and BC isn’t bad at all. Well, Physics C is pretty tough, but BC, not so much.

The usual classes depends on what kind of student you are… A friend of mine thats also high in rank is taking 5, 4 AP 1 honors. There’s no other class that I would take…

I know physics and Calc aren’t bad, it’s the psych English combo that are going to kill me. I chose four classes so I could have time for those.

I self-studied AP Psych with little focus in 2 weeks and got a 4. There may be more work in the AP class, but you will have almost no trouble comprehending the material. English is just busywork. Trust me, even for a math person, Physics will be more difficult.

To answer your question, yes 4 classes is not a rigorous schedule for the top colleges. I’m taking 6 class (5 AP, 1 normal) and I received a 4.0 UW last semester. There are many, many other applicants who have similar (or even more rigorous) schedules on top of doing other extracurriculars or self-studies.

I’m not saying harder, but I know that those two will be time consuming.

I can’t take six classes… Only 4 APs fit (one is physics so that’s actually 5 periods of class because of a lab)
There are no other APs available for me to take… They don’t fit. There are no other honors classes either. I guess I can see about foreign policy H…

Would it look better if I’m taking two classes at community college? Or even one? That’s what I plan on doing, and that’s what I’m doing now with 3 APs and two honors classes.
Thanks for the advice

^Yes. Or could you take some regular class? Like at least an art class, or computer programming or some goof-off soc. sci class? Regular economics, or civics, or something?
