Will this hurt my application for Cornell?

On their application, Cornell asks if you have a relative who currently works there or has worked there. I had a grandmother who was a secretary in their New York City office in the 1950s, so I answered “Yes,” thinking it couldn’t hurt. I have never met her, nor do I know what her affiliation was with Cornell beyond her secretary job. I realize that colleges ask this question to make sure students aren’t getting preferential treatment because of relatives with connections.

Now, I’m worried that it might look like I’m asking for special treatment. Or, the fact that I answered “yes” to having a relative who worked there would make me a less appealing candidate. Should I email the admissions officer to let her know there’s no conflict of interest? I just want to make sure it won’t hurt my application.

They asked you the question, and you provided an honest answer. I don’t see any problem here. I think you’re fine
