I am currently a native-born Japanese high school Junior that is taking AP Japanese as a class. I did not want to take the class though - due to a scheduling difficulty, AP Japanese was the only decent class that was available for that period. I actually wanted to take AP Computer Science instead. I have taken 2 years of Korean before I took this class. In addition, I am currently taking 4 more AP classes besides Japanese. Will college admissioners take my situation into consideration? Will my two years of Korean cancel out the class I’m taking right now? Should I even worry?
Can you already read and write Japanese at or above the level covered in that AP class? If so, then you probably don’t need it, and could just pick up a fun elective (art? cooking? photography? automechanics?). If you don’t yet read and write Japanese at the level covered in the AP class, and/or if you think it would be handy to use the AP credit to get out of intro-level Japanese once in college so that you can take higher-level classes and/or waive the foreign language graduation requirement, then this class is a very good thing, don’t you think?
