...if I choose not to put in my AP scores on the application. I know that colleges don't get official reports until you decide to enroll, but does that mean that I can exclude the scores from my application. If I do so, will this look bad (as though I didn't take the AP tests but did take the AP class)?

If they ask for them and you dont supply them, they may assume you didnt take the exam which is bad. If they say, “its optional”, then it is. I think WUSTL is that way. If your scores are good (4,5) then report them. If they are mediocre (3) that is up to you and depends on the test, whether its US History or Calculus and your intended major. If they are BAD (failing…below a 3) then dont report them unless you are required to report them.

AP exams are a close approximation of college level exam work. If you consistently get low scores and yet have a high gpa, the school can then determine that your high school is fluff and puff and has bad grade inflation.

If you have a moderate gpa and VERY high AP scores, they can deduce that your school is very competitive, perhaps has grade deflation and you are indeed VERY well prepared for college. That was my D’s case and it is being borne out in college…where she is excelling.

You decide. Good luck.

p.s. She reported them to WUSTL. She had consistently VERY high scores (all 4, 5…and completed 9 AP courses). WUSTL waitlisted her. Their loss. She is somewhere else and doing SUPREMELY well.)
