The only discipline problem that I've been a part of was when i got ISS (in school suspension) for 3 days for GETTING PUNCHED IN THE FACE in 9th grade. Basically I made a stupid immature joke and he gets up in the middle of class and almost breaks my nose. I literally had never been so mad in my entire life, and because of that I couldn't get into honor society, beta club, etc. My question is, would I have to explain this to colleges? Would they buy my explanation? Would it severely hurt my chances of admission? I haven't had any discipline problems since, and even then I do not think I deserved to get suspended for what I did.

you can try but i'm not sure how forgiving colleges are going to be considering they have thousands of other applicants who didn't get iss for provoking a kid into punching him in the face.

wow. nice man.

I would suggest talking to your guidance councelor about it--they might be able to write a separate letter of explanation about it or something. I don't know what else can be done or how much it will affect you in the application process.

hello?????

i don't think honors societies matter that much

It's a much bigger deal if it happened later in your high school career, IE junior or senior year. I think you'll be ok, talk to your GC though

Will the college even find out about it though? ISS and stuff doesn't show up on the transcript.

And yeah, I was super immature in 9th grade but got my act together sophmore year, and my grades improved and are in an upward trend, so hopefully that will show colleges that I am more responsible etc.

anyone????

I thought that at my school, at least, it shows up on your personal record. I'm not sure if colleges will find out, but it really doesn't matter.

Dont worry you dont have to report it since its iss and only an ******* gc will write that kinda of stuff on a report. Talk to her though to make sure. Honestly just forget about it, your better off not mentioning it because your not required too (only oos suspension counts)

Ha, I got in like 5-7 fights in middle school, ISS and OSS a couple times too. However, I have made sure am good in HS, because at my HS, even if you defend yourself, you get 10 days of OSS. Just right some kind of explaination in the additional info section. And since this was 9th grade, just blame the MS immmaturity that was still a major part of your personality or something along those lines.

Well great, there's a section in the app for Penn State to explain any suspensions you have gotten, max 1000 words or something...

Should I write a lengthy explanation and say what I have learned, etc, or should I just write a short one and get to the point?

b u m p

I would suggest boxing lessons. You're fine, most schools don't even specify on types of suspensions. Just write, "I have never received an out of school suspension". I knew kids that did that and it is completely acceptable. They got into great schools.
