I'm a freshman, but I really want to go to Harvard. My grades used to be pretty high, but my averages in some of my classes have dropped to low 90s, and I'm really, really stressed out about this! Will this affect my chance at Harvard?

you’re a freshman. Chill.

I’m applying with 5-ish Bs. =p

I’m afraid low A’s will destroy your chances at any school.

Ouch, try to get those up ASAP. You may have just ruined any chance at any top 10 school. I’m sorry. Low A’s ruin transcripts in the eyes of any admissions committee, you should definitely try to get those back up.

I will make the obligatory joke, so no one else has to: “Oh NOEZ!1! You can’t even go to community college anymore!” and the obligatory remark about age “Get A LIFE MAN! You are ONLY A FRESHMAN! Life isn’t about getting into college!!!”

Well, now we’ve got that out of the way, I think for now, it is more important to concentrate on your extra-curriculars than to worry about your grades. An A is an A I believe. Try to find some activities you will truly enjoy -in case you haven’t already- and spend time doing those. Don’t try to mould yourself to be the perfect applicant. Try to excell in some areas you like in the next couple of years; be it collecting stamps or winning maths competitions. This is much more appreciated by colleges, because you will show you are an actual human; and even if your college plans don’t work out in the end, you know you’ve at least spend your high school years doing something fun and challenged yourself all the while.

Good luck!
