So I’m a senior in my last 2 weeks of school. I’ve already been accepted into college, done all my housing stuff etc. Being the idiot that I am, I cheated on my last math test before the final and was caught. I got a zero which I don’t care about, but the teacher said she has to report it to the office and it will go in my academic record or whatever. My question is, will the college see this? Will this be included on my transcript? Am I gonna get my admission taken away? Obviously this was a stupid decision and I regret it immensely, but as of now I’m just worried about my college acceptance being taken away.
You’re in a bind there buddy. This is certainly a valid reason to rescind admission, but it probably won’t be rescinded if you take the right actions. You MUST send a note apologizing and explaining the incident along with a note from your counselor to your admissions officer. Do not let the school send their note first (and be sure, they will send one). Make sure your counselor and your admissions officer know that you are willing to give a reason for this incident (even if it’s just, “in a serious lapse of judgement, I did this. However, since I have been caught, I am aware of the harsh consequences of my actions and am entirely sure that I would never again let this happen to me and my academic reputation.”)
Thank you for the response. I was told by my teacher that I she will be sending a referal to the office which will go on my “highschool record”. Does this mean it will be included in my transcripts when those get sent to my college?
Ask your school counselor. None of us have any way of knowing that.
@skieurope , do you have more advice for this poster?
@Lindagaf I can only echo the comments of @suzy100 . Ask the GC. S/he may or may not post a note to the final transcript; none of us here will know. Good luck.
Thank you for your reply. I won’t be able to talk with my GC until Monday, but do you know if disciplinary actions are usually included within transcripts? Or do they typically contain just grades and test scores?
It’s totally up to the school what they include aside from grades.
at my school, cheating does go on our transcripts and the student is blacklisted and removed from officer positions and the national honor society
It varies from school to school. Once again, only your GC can answer your questions.
For anyone interested, I asked my office about the transcripts, and no, they do not include disciplinary problems on them. However I still plan on going to the counselor to apologize to the school even further for my terrible action.
I doubt the college will see cheating in your file, especially at a time of year when everyone is very busy. I suspect few and maybe no schools would rescind admissions. So, you escaped a consequence, probably.
An idiot made a stupid choice? What were you hoping to gain by cheating? How would you feel if you hadn’t been caught? How would you feel if your grade obtained through cheating lowered the grade of someone else in the class? Or, how would you feel if someone else got an A by cheating and you earned the highest B?
Please take some time to think about cheating. Why on the test before final? If you were willing to take a zero when you were caught, why wasn’t any grade higher than zero a better choice? Regret is ok; but guilt, contrition, etc. would be a better choice. You have no right to grades, academic honors and other advantages that aren’t earned by your own merit! You were afraid of the consequences to you, but you need to consider the consequences of your actions on others.
I hate to be mean to you, but cheating is simply unacceptable.
I would recommend talking to your guidance counselor, since your school may notify your college about the incident. Even if they don’t, it’s possible to earn a degree and later have the degree revoked because you lied on your application. Obviously this is pretty rare and I don’t think anything will happen in your case, but it’s not something to risk.
The larger question the College will wonder is "if s/he were willing to cheat when there are no stakes, what will s/he do in college, when stakes are high? "
This being said, I doubt you’ll be rescinded, but pointlessly stupid and lacking in moral compass mean you need to shape up quickly.

Goodness knows you don’t have to answer the question but…why did you cheat? I ask because making sure you don’t lose your college acceptance seems the least…more important is why you chose to do this. College can be very stressful…kids make decisions and those have consequences.
?! you cheated for no reason? surely you will cheat later, when there is a reason. this better not be true buddy…
Was this the first time you cheated or the first time you were caught?
You need to change your approach to life or you are headed for more trouble.
Look guys, I made a huge mistake that I feel terribly guilty for which is why I scheduled a meeting with my councelor to apologize. I’m a teenager and I make mistakes. I’ve used this incident as a learning opprotunity. I asked for advice on the situation not for my entire life to be shamed. Because you all totally know me, and my ethics.
I mean, jaywalking, sure…cheating without remorse, maybe not. You’re not really in a position to be high and mighty.
