Will this work??

Hi, I have represented my state in the nationals in table tennis. I would like to know that if I send the certificates I recieved and my state team coach reccomendation to the college coach, will my admission chances increase in the ivies??

If you have already mentioned this in the ExtraCurriculars section of the Common App, then it’s probably a bad idea to send the certificates additionally.
However, an extra reco would be helpful if it shows a new side of your personality, and should be added to the Additional Information section. Or you could even mail the reco directly.
This is just IMO, and you might want more opinions.
All the best! :)

Instead of a recommendation from your coach, you should have (still) contact the Table Tennis coach at the university and you could be recruited.

^ “Not Germany because it’s too mainstream”

+1.

I dont really want them to recruit me. I just wanted to ask that being a player, will they favour me more??

It was just a thought. They might thing I m telling a lie about being a TT player. That was the reason I thought certificates and coach rec would be a good proof.
So my ques is, would my admission be favoured if I list that I m a national player in the common app??

No, I can’t say. I’m not part of an adcom. They want players to be recruited.

First of all I dont believe table tennis is a joke ,because nearly every colleges participate in inter collegiate tournaments and are a part of NCTTA, to me beer pong looks seems more like a joke.

@Tizil I wanna know how to get recruited should I contact the adcoms about this.

@Mrinal2207 it is very weird that you dont want to be recruited, you said you were a national level player, but still you dont want to play for the college you get admitted to,Harvard is one such college which will ask in its supplement that do you wanna showcase or pursue you EC at intercollegiate level , it may look really weird that if you state you are a national level player but dont want to play at NCTTA tournament if given chance

@mechrockz: Firstly, time to get recruited for this fall 2012 has “unofficially” ended. Coaches urge prospective recruits to get in touch with them in September-October, get recruited to that college and then apply Early Action/Decision to that college and secure their seat. So though you might have a SLIGHT chance at this stage, most of the colleges have already recruited players.
Secondly, since you’re an international applicant, criteria for getting recruited are different. For an international applicant, one should play AND WIN MEDALS in National Games of the country and/or should have an experience of playing in the Youth Olympics(though winning a medal is not necessary). So basically one has to be an international level player to get recruited.
