will transfering hurt my chances of grad/med school

Alright so after my 1st semester at a college I hate I got a 2.893 GPA. I want to go to grad and Med school and I’m a bit concerned about my GPA. I am considering transferring to NC State, UNCG, or App. I have a lot of friends that go there and seem to be doing extremely well.
I was wondering how important is the “prestige” of a university? (not saying that there’s anything wrong with the other schools but when I talk to people around here they seem to be a lil one sided towards UNC which is expected) I know I could do extremely better at one of the other colleges because I would be more comfortable and happier there.

plz help, i have to decide which school to send an app to by friday if i transfer.

2.893 GPA for your first semester of college? I highly doubt you hurt your chances for med school that early. Prestige does help, but it's not as important as your BCPM (biology, chemistry, physics and mathmatics) gpa and MCAT score. Since this is only your first semester of college I'm going to assume you've only taken one of the premed classes. It's no big deal if you got one C or B (I'm assuming that since you got a 2.8) in one of your bio, ochem, chem, physics or mathmatics classes. Just make sure you get at least As and Bs from now on. Try to move your BCPM gpa to a 3.5 and have an overall gpa around there as well. That combined with a 30N-30P (the values MUST all be around the same for all three sections) should give you a good chance for an interview with your state medical schools.

If you feel that you can succeed better at a different college then do it. You shouldn't have to miserable at a college you don't like.
