Will Tulane open the waitlist this year?

So, has anybody heard anything? Has anyone been taken off the waitlist? Do you think they will open it this year?

I think we will know Monday or Tuesday.

Given Tulane’s historically low yield rate I would say there’s a good chance. My son, my niece and a son’s classmate were all admitted to Tulane’s Honors Program – and all are attending other colleges. Good luck!

Except that Tulane has taken none from the wait list 4 of the last 5 years. Another example of why I wish people would quit paying attention to the useless stat of yield.

Schools that have any historic trend with regards to yield are then admitting the appropriate number of students to account for that yield %. If not, then the admissions folks aren’t doing their job. You can’t account for some variances - for example, Louisiana schools post-Katrina, but admissions offices base admittance rates off prior year patterns. A pattern of low yield rates just means higher admissions rates - it doesn’t necessarily mean opening up the wait list.

Yes, in a way. Actually Tulane lowered their admission rate, but they increased the number of applications by quite a lot, so in essence they achieved what you said by other means. Your point is correct, that once you know about what your yield is, you compensate accordingly. With Tulane going ED this year for the first time, everything will change.

Just received an email rejection after being waitlisted

^ So did my daughter. The email said, “We are unable to admit any students from our Wait List.”

Ah, OK. Thanks for that info, @Mary13 and sorry your D didn’t get better news. I am sure she is headed somewhere interesting, though. Best of luck to her.

@izayaorihara

It is official, Tulane will not take from the wait list. Very large class this year, new record easily.

Yeah, just received the email saying they didn’t open up the wait list this year. Oh well. Wishing all of you the best of luck this fall wherever you end up!
