Will UC davis reject me if Im only missing one major requirement before transferring?

Hi, everyone. I'm currently attending a california community college and I plan on transferring to a UC (top choices are UC Berkeley UCLA, UC Davis, and UCI) as a civil engineering major. As far as major requirements go, UC Davis has the most, and if I don't get into Berkeley, then I would most likely want to attend Davis. However, if I plan to transfer in two years (which I would REALLY prefer), I probably won't have my second semester chemistry class taken, and this is one of Davis' major requirements, so I really need to know if UC Davis will still accept me if my gpa is high and just let me take the chemistry class at their campus. Is getting in really that competitive? I will most likely have all my other major requirements finished in two years.

you’re fine.
UCD isn’t as strict about major pre-req’s as UCB or UCLA.

Dude, you’re fine. You don’t need your pre-req by the time you apply. You just need to have it done by the time you go to the respective UC’s.

Now, if you are talking about you won’t finish it by the year’s end, seriously, just pick up the phone and dial. It actually is helpful if you are too worried. I wish you the luck.

As long as u keep up ur GPA, missing one major pre is fine… besides… u r a science major transfer… But that will be a different story if u aiming for UCB and UCLA, they are very strict toward ur major pre completeness

thanks for the reply everyone, and clawandliftfal, are you saying I should just call UC Davis and tell them that I won’t be able to take that class. Should I do this before I apply, or after?

listen to this:

i applied to davis (as a safety school) with only 2 or 3 of about 12-13 prereq’s for my major. i got in. i was actually really surprised to be accepted with barely any prereqs done.

anyway, got in to davis. sired to berkeley, and starting ucla next week. :)

HigherHopes,
what is your major? That really put me at ease since UCD and UCSC are roughly equivalent as far as school standings go.
I am missing a bunch, I will only have 3 of 11 prereqs and want to TAG to UCSC as a Human Biology major(formerly Health Sciences). I changed my major late at my CC, I’ve already spent 5 years at this CC and really can’t stay for another year.

^Actually. . .Davis and UCSC aren’t roughly equivalent in school standing. If you want to get out of your CC then find a major in which you have fulfilled most of the prereqs. Once you are let in then you can take the additional prereqs and then change your major.
MJC (if that is where you are attending CC) isn’t so bad but I can see why you want to get out of there. I transferred out of there in 1 year (had 9 units from years ago) because I felt stifled by the, er. . .atmosphere.

flwrgrl,
Ah okay, I have thought about going that path.
Just a little apprehensive, I’m afraid of being stuck with psych if there is a great amount of difficulty changing to human bio. I don’t mind taking the prereqs at UCSC at all, I’d prefer it to staying here another year.

I definitely understand what you mean.
MJC as an institution is great, but Modesto is becoming more of a cesspool by the day.
There are no jobs, too much crime, drugs, etc. This city literally depresses me.
On top of that, I’ve been at MJC for 5 years now due to a deficiency in math skills and two major changes.

If you are only missing 1-2 pre-reqs for UCD, you are fine. More than that, and it could be a problem.

At Davis I went in for Psych. I went to orientation and expressed my real interest in statistics to the department. Apparently, it will be easy to switch, according to the L&S advisor, especially since I have most of the prereqs complete. I don’t know how easy a major change will be between two majors that are in different colleges/divisions.

Yes, I tried to be nice about it but there is no way of going around the fact that Modesto is not a pleasant area to call home. I would get out as soon as possible. A different environment will help you focus better and allow you to figure out what you want to do. Can’t do that with tweaked out neighbors fighting, cars getting stolen, and the general feelings of depression that seems to pervade the whole population .
