Will UCLA rescind me for failing a pass/no pass class?

It says: “letter grades are required, and the P/NP option is not appropriate: … most major requirements (check with department for possible exceptions).”

UCSC says the same thing: some majors allow P/NP for major courses:
http://registrar.ucsc.edu/navigator/section4/performance/pnp.html

What I said over and over is in “rare cases” and “sometimes” you can use P/NP. Those are the actual rules, so not sure why I get blowback. (I also said QUITE CLEARLY that it would be noted on the major site if a course could be taken P/NP and never to just do it on your own.) Saying I am telling ppl to P/NP major courses willy-nilly is ridiculous and out of line.

You also CAN take pre-reqs to major requirements as P/NP, if that is an issue. Anyway, there’s too much back and forth on an inconsequential issue. I made my statement about P/NP based on facts and have nothing more to add on the subject.

Sorry for being confusing. The way it works is this:

I can take two lower div courses on western civilization to fulfill my history pre reqs

Or I can take two lower div courses in world history to fulfill that prereq.

I pass failed the western civ prereq, so it wont count anymore for my major. But i still havent done the world civ prereq, so that option remains open.

I have nothing more to add on this subject. Sorry. Let us know how it turns out.

UCLA’s History department very clearly says that no major courses or major prep courses can be taken for P/NP. So the way I see it, whether you had passed or not, you would have to take the alternate course sequence because you wouldn’t get major credit for it. Obviously only admissions can tell you, but it doesn’t seem to be an admissions requirement, so you may not rescinded.

@lindyk8 This is not in response to your last couple of posts. I just looked at the depts requirements, and added what I saw.

Just to be clear (even though I said I wasn’t going to say anything):

What I said about pre-reqs for major requirements being P/NP - I gave an actual example above: precalc is allowed P/NP for the calculus series major requirement. Pre-calc is a pre-req for the series (or Calc 1) and is not listed as a a major requirement. In other words, calc series listed as needed to be fulfilled on assist WILL NOT INCLUDE precalc. This would also include UCLA, I assume.

This means you can take any pre-req, such as precalc, that gets you to the major requirements for P/NP, as the major only cares about the higher level courses listed. (Likewise, if a Spanish course needed is Span 2, you can take Span 1 P/NP, just take Span 2 for the letter grade.) At one point OP you listed the P/NP course as a pre-req to a pre-req, which is what led to the comment.

So now it all seems to be OK. I’m glad. de ja vu all over again.

But pre-reqs to pre-reqs can also be major requirements, too.

This is a rabbit hole, haha

Your picture is strange, lindyk8.

You can’t see but the rabbit has a cocktail in his hand.
