What was your grade point then? How do you know it was equivalent to a C-?
But the classes are either closed or at wait list.
If your CC GPA is only 2.9 then it will be hard to survive at UCLA.
My original cumulative GPA was nearly 4.0 but I suffered from illness the last quarter and could not catch up with the course work.
Try CSULB session II:

Thx for your suggestions. However, I am currently in the Northwest so I will not be able to attend the first one. I just can’t find a nearby CC or college that offers the course in the summer. For the summer sessions of UC schools, the classes that I need to take are all full.
Are there any cases that UCLA rescind a transfer student’s offer based on a D in a major preparatory course?
Yes, there are a lot of cases. It’s pretty standard, unless they’re in a nice mood. But then you pretty much have to complete in summer, with usually like a B grade. I’m not sure I have ever heard of a D in a major prep course getting in without some prior retake.
That’s why you REALLY need to retake that course.
I’m still trying to figure out the whole ‘you say its a C- but your teacher calls it a D’ situation.
What is the grade/points on you transcript (or wherever you can see the grade you received)?
In the front page of my official transcript, it lists the grade point I get in every course. Then in the back page there is a Grade Point to Alphabet Grade equivalency table, like it is a reference for anyone who reads the transcript. I got a 1.5 in Calculus 4, and according to the table it is a C-. But the UCLA officer says that 1.5 is treated as a D. She also says that only above or equal to 2.0 is a C.
So two questions. First, should a C- be counted as a C or a D? Second, is it right for the officer to use the UCLA grading standard to evaluate my grade (1.5 is a D+ in UCLA’s grading)?
I may have to first get in the wait list of the class in UCLA’s summer session (because that class is full) and call the officer that I have tried my best. The only thing I am afraid of is that I may pay a lot of additional fee for a summer session and at the end I can’t get enrolled in any class. What do you guys think?
I think colleges use their own grading scale and recalculate GPA.
Regardless C- does not look good.
A grade of C- is not passing, so whether ucla is calling it a D, D+, or C-, doesn’t matter for this purpose. At least not the way I see it. You’re spending too much energy focusing on this rather than trying to figure out how to take it in summer.
Do you think getting in a wait list class and report to UCLA helps the situation? It shows that I have tried my best. I have really tried looking for courses but they are either too late for me to register or totally full.
@dasher UCLA will indeed count it as a D. They count 1.7 as a C-. It’s how the UCs rolls. They calculate by the number equivalent.
Regardless, it’s a moot point. A major prep course must be a C grade minimum. They don’t count C-, so it’s irrelevant.
Certainly get on the waitlist, but having no resolution is not going to help because there are limits to how long they can just hold a space, as you need to register for classes (and possible housing). It’s better than nothing, but limited in scope. I don’t think they’ll admit you for trying. They’ll admit you if you complete the course in a timely manner.
