Hello,
I was recently admitted to both UCI and UCLA. Since my father was completely against my going to UCLA, I recently submitted my SIR to UCI. But now, it seems he's OK with me going to UCLA, and I want to change my decision. What do I do? The deadline is this Wednesday!

Just cancel your UCI SIR (nonrefundable) and submit another SIR to UCLA.

^ Is correct. They won’t care as long as you cancel. You just lost $100 though.

To be safe, cancel UCI and THEN submit your SIR to UCLA. You don’t want to have any problems because you’ve SIRed to two schools!

Your dad is a moron.

So, if I cancel my UCI SIR Monday (the next business day), then SIR to UCLA, I should be fine and there won’t be any problems?

As far as processing goes in the UC system?

I’m pretty sure it’s instantaneous, but if you wait 24 hours, you’ll definitely be fine. Have fun at UCLA!

If I were you, I would ask the people in a position to give you a reliable answer instead of hoping that what you here on an internet forum is correct. What if it turns out that once you accept a spot at one UC the computers automatically cancel all other UC offers? I don’t know that to be the case, in fact I doubt it, but what if it was?

Call UCLA admissions and ask them.

On the off-chance that happens, he’s still got the offer letter and the school would know he was admitted. He’s still accepting before the May 1st deadline, so they’d let him in. And, no, accepting at one UC does not automatically cancel all the others. You would need to go to each portal and decline all the other offers, but no one does … people just let the May 1 deadline pass and it’s automatically revoked.

You can withraw an SIR (but i dont think you get your money back) and then SIR to another UC.

source: I’ve done it before, no probs. Just e-mail UCI undergrad admissions informing them

I hope you’re right. The OP is counting on it being right. On the other hand the UC website says this
So is canceling one SIR and submitting another the same as transfering it? Hopefully not.

To the OP: I hope it works out the way you want. Let us know what happens.

Yes, I’m pretty confident about the SIR-cancelling process. If not, there would be no point to an appeals process at all since many appeals decisions come out after SIRs are due. Just be sure to email UCI-admissions asap.
