Howdy,
I’m an English major transferring from a San Diego community college. Anyone have an educated guess on my chances? I’ve done the statistical research and it seems like it’s not quiet a reach, but not quiet a match.
Major: English
GPA: 3.5 (That’s with winter grades that I already submitted)
TAP? Yes
IGETC: Yes
Major prereqs: For the most part- yes. I am enrolled in French three right now, so I still need french four. However, most people I know didn’t complete any or all of their foreign language requirements until transferring.
ECs: Volunteer after-school coach at the YMCA, volunteer English-tutor, VP of my college’s Creative Writing Club, work over 24 hours a week as a barista, and child-care worker.
Essays: I poured my heart into them. My transfer councilor told me they were perfect. I did all I could do.
Soo…is it a match? We’re not fortune tellers. But, what do you think?
I forgot to mention that my alternative major is American Literature & Culture
https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major For English, the lowest enroll GPA listed for Fall 2017 is 3.59, so it’s a bit of a reach. However, UCLA does do a holistic review and you seem like a strong candidate in all the other areas. Getting into UCLA is hard but not impossible, I bet you can do it! Please let us know.
Ah ! I was using data from 2016 because I couldn’t find 2017 stats. Thanks for sharing that! Looks like you’re right- it was a tad lower for 2016. I’m hoping my TAP will come in handy then since American Lit & Culture has a lower GPA admit rate.
I will definitely let everyone know!
Keep in mind that the GPA that UCLA will use for admissions purposes does not include Winter session grades, even if you already submitted them. Although UCLA may use your Winter grades for additional consideration, your overall GPA for admission purposes will be based on your grades up to Fall 2017. Therefore, it would be more helpful if you can also state what your GPA without Winter 2018 grades is.
Thanks @need2go2UCLA ! My school couples the intercession (Winter) and Fall semesters so that they end before the date of the supplemental application. That being said, I did not take any winter classes so my GPA with Fall 2017 semester grades is a 3.5 Sorry for the confusion!
For anyone snooping the threads, ripe with anxiety (as I did) I wanted to update. I got into UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCI, UCSD and SDSU. You are more than a number! Hang in there.
Congrats on getting in! I think this has reached its conclusion.
