I recently got accepted to UCSB and UCI but I just realized on my application put down that I planned on taking Composition II second semester of senior yet but after i sent in my application I ended up not taking that class due to availability and had to switch into another college course called Art Appreciation. I did take Composition I first semester and did take Public speaking (another college course) 2nd semester. Would UCSB and UCI take back my letter of admission?
A schedule change as minor as that (especially due to availability) is unlikely to jeopardize your acceptance, unless Comp II was fulfilling a specific requirement. I wouldn’t worry, but you should run this by your HS counselor or call admissions at UCSB/UCI just to make sure.
Thank you so much! UCSB has an A-G requirement and B is to take a college preparatory English, college preparatory composition or literature for 4 years. Would college credit Public Speaking count for that since I did not take Composition II but I took composition I?
If you don’t give them a heads up and correct your error, they very well might rescind the offer…
Okay, you might have a problem since it’s fulfilling the A-Gs. What’s the course number for public speaking? If it’s in the English department (ENG or ENGL prefix) they might let you use it.
From the UC website:
Can courses in creative writing, speech, debate or journalism be approved in the English (“b”) subject area?
Courses in speech, debate, creative writing or journalism typically do not meet the criteria for approval in the “b” subject area, but may meet the criteria for approval in the elective (“g”) subject area. In order for these courses to be approved in the “g” subject area, they must include elements of reading, writing, listening and speaking.
You need to get in touch with someone at the colleges about this ASAP. Connect with an admissions counselor personally, explain the situation, and be prepared to go to a different college if they won’t accept it. Where did you apply, other than UCs?
Yes I got accepted into UC Irvine and waitlisted for UC San Diego
Anywhere OTHER than UCs, though? Unfortunately, it sounds like you need a backup option in case the UCs won’t accept your course credit.
Other than UC I applied to University of Iowa and Arizona State
One last question, since I did complete Composition I, do you think there is a chance of UCSB being okay with not taking Composition II and not rescinding my admission? I guess I am just asking for your opinion on this situation.
Good, glad you have options!
All you can do at this point is talk to them. I’d focus on UCI, since you’ve already been accepted - any school is more willing to help an admitted student than a waitlist student.
will ive been admitted to UCSB its not an official admittance since i havent sent y transcripts anywhere and I have no yet notified about my schedule change with that english course. That is my problem sadly.
They will probably not accept only Comp I, since Comp II satisfied the 4th year of English for the A-G requirement.
Again - I think your only option is to talk to them as soon as possible. Is there a chance that you could take Comp II over the summer? If so, you could offer that option when you talk to them.
