Will UNC look at Writing next year?

My counselor told me that UNC probably won't look at the writing portion of the SAT next year, but I'm wondering if you guys know anything about this as well. Also, won't UNC see the writing scores anyways? Wouldn't a good writing score help out even a little bit, even though it's not a major factor? I'm asking this because I did surprisingly well on my writing section, and I'm personally hoping the writing section will be included in the whole SAT picture at UNC for admissions in the 2007-2008 year.

cubsfan: I'm surprised to hear that they don't look at the writing portion. At any rate, I think a good score can only help you. Also, UNC admissions seems to pay a lot of attention to good writers; they give a lot of weight, I believe, to those essays (certainly in terms of looking at applicants for the honors program). Somebody else can probably give you a better answer, but from what I understand, they like good writers. Again, a good score can only help you.

When we visited, the admissions folks said that they take the writing portion into consideration, but they are unsure exactly how to interpret it. They said they are still used to considering the 1600 SAT.
