Will universities look down upon summer school?

I'm going to Stanford for summer school this year.
Many people told me that the universities see this as a failed attempt to vow the admissions committee.:(
But I don't get why?
I'm taking courses which I can't take in my home country and these subjects highly interest me. I'm seriously considering taking it up in university and I thought that this will be suitable for me.
I'm not really interested in an internship because I really want to get an idea of what my subject of interest is like in university!
I'm confused. Should I attend or not.
Help me!

You should definitely attend! Those people who said are just jealous.

It’s not a negative, it’s just not the plus many think it is. Lots of kids going to summer programs at top schools think it will help them get into the school. It won’t. By all means go if what you’re looking for is some interesting classes.

I think either people misinformed you, or you misinterpreted what they were trying to say.

Going to summer school at Stanford and taking classes you couldn’t take at home is a good, productive way to use your summer. It is certainly better than playing video games all summer or drinking beer all summer. But it is one of many good, productive ways to use your summer. It isn’t particularly better or worse than doing a wilderness-adventure program or training for a marathon or interning at a law firm or learning a new language or working for pay. What those people meant, I suspect, is that it isn’t any going to give you any particular advantage in gaining admission to Stanford as an undergraduate.

But if it’s what you want to do, and you can afford to do it, it should be a great summer.

(X-post with Waverly–who probably managed to post first on account of using fewer words!)

I’ll see you there!
Yeah, that’s ridiculous. Why would pursuing a subject that interests you be a bad thing?! I’ll be taking classes at Summer College because I legitimately want to pursue that field, not because I’m trying to “impress” anyone. I think it’ll be a great way to use my summer.
