There's a July deadline to apply for parking, of which I'm somewhat confused on.

Why apply for parking in the first place?

I'm assuming parking would be the answer for people that don't live near UCLA and need a close place to park for classes, but considering i'm at the Rieber Terrace, I would imagine classes are a short walk/bike ride away.

I'm a bit torn about whether or not I should apply for parking and figured others opinions would sway mine.

i dont think the parking would necissarily be for you to get to class. i think it would be just somewhere you could park your car during the week. that way on the weekend you could drive home or go into the city.

If you dot have a job outside of the zip code, a kid under the age of 12 or are driving to campus everyday, you arent getting one. Its on a point scale and since i have no of the above its probably not happening

My concern is, being placed to live at the Rieber Terrace, if I should even apply for parking?

See, I’ve been thinking that applying for UCLA parking entailed getting a parking spot near my place of residence; but it seems that applying for UCLA parking provides a parking spot only for when needing to get to class. i.e., a parking spot near the campus itself, for access to a day’s worth of classes.

Being placed at the Rieber Terrace (double, shared bathroom), I’m assuming my day-to-day will consist of either walking or riding a bike to campus/classes. I have a car, but will only most likely drive it either on occasional nights and weekends when wanting to go home or to lunch.

Would applying for UCLA parking be the way to go, or another method?

I say go ahead and apply for a parking permit as long as their isn’t a yet another fee to apply. Worst that can happen is you get turned down. If so and you still want your car, there are long term parking garages in the area. Don’t know the monthly fees but you can probably find them on google. Don’t count on finding a spot near UCLA but off-campus either. It’s filled with apartment complexes and it’s almost impossible to find a spot to park for long term.

I’m definitely going for a UCD parking permit, because unless I get really lucky between now and September I’m going to be living in another town :(

There is 24/7 parking at 924 Westwood Blvd for $100 / month. It’s an underground garage literally at the front gate to UCLA’s campus. You can call them to get set up at 310-980-5606.
