Will you chance me for Pomona?

Hi, I'm a white male from Little Rock, Arkansas. I attend a small private school.

Extra: National Merit Semifinalist, Jefferson Scholarship Nominee, NCTE Promising Young Writers nominee, National Honor Society

ECs: School Newspaper Editor, Quiz Bowl team member, Harry Potter Club president, Senior Peer Leader, Heavily involved in Drama, worked as a Summer Research Intern at a major hospital in my area

Awards: Golds (Summa cum Laude) on National Latin Exam, multiple state art awards, multiple state journalism awards, Sewanee Book Award, multiple class-specific awards (mostly in English classes)

Teacher Recs: One is from my English/Shakespeare Teacher, Newspaper sponsor, and faculty advisor. She knows me very well, so I expect a great recommendation.
The other is from my Latin teacher and my school's Dean of Students. It should be great as well.

Counselor Rec: I went on a week-long trip with him, so I think he will write a good one.

I haven't written my essays yet, but my greatest strength is writing.

I'm also applying to Yale, Brown, UVA, William and Mary, Rice, Columbia, and Wash U.

You seem very qualified and it should help that you’re from Arkansas. I’m afraid Pomona rejects a lot of great kids like you from the west coast, but your geographic diversity could be a big plus. Your list makes me wonder why Pomona? It’s the lone LAC on your list, and is also a geographic outlier. A great school, but is it really what you want?

I’m not 100% sure what I want in college, so I’m sort of letting the colleges do the decision-making for me…
