Will you chance me?

I am curious if I have a shot at Reed, in everyone's honest opinions.
Really, just tell me if it would be worth it to apply?

I am from San Francisco.

My stats:
3.65 GPA unweighted. 4.35 weighted.

2170 SAT I (770 writing, 730 math, 680 critical reading)
780 US history and 770 MAthII for SAT II
I have had a paid internship at a museum for two years now, plenty of volunteer work with kids.
COSMOS academic program this summer for a month.
and travel during the summer.

Varsity soccer, also some club soccer.

OK, I was just accepted and I had a 3.72 unweighted gpa, 2070 SAT I, and fairly boring ECs. (I did take 10 classes at a LAC in the past year, which probably helped.) But from what I’ve read, the most important parts of the app are the rigor of your classes and your essays. Your stats are average or above average for Reed, so if you are taking the hardest classes possible and can write good essays that will show Reed is the right fit for you, I think you have a good chance of getting in. And I think it’s definitely worth applying!

as good a shot as anyone else! Show why you want to go to reed! Show that you are an intellectual! show that you want to be surrounded by academics and not athletic recruits!

Yes. Absolutely. I was just admitted ED with a lower unweighted GPA (albeit with a very difficult course load) and a 2110 (although my verbal/reading score was > 750).

If you can write well your odds increase substantially, I’m convinced. Well, I mean, just convince Reed that you need to be at Reed. Also, interview. I think my interview helped tremendously with my acceptance. No need to “impress” them. I think it’s more about an adcom’s chance to see if you would vibe with Reed.

You know, it’s like, it’s Reed. You’re likely cool just for considering the place so make sure admissions understands your awesomeness. Show them that you love school, that you get a kick out of Kant (or whatever your into) and intelligent conversation.

Best of luck!

Of course it’d be worth it to apply. Doing a once-over of your stats, they seem pretty similar to mine (3.72ish GPA, 2250 SAT, high SAT IIs), but it’s not really the stats that matter. Like others have said, it’s about showing a passion for learning and a passion for Reed. Learn how to write well, and your chances will improve immensely.

It’s absolutely worth it. I was accepted with a 3.5 u/w, 4.0 w GPA (that included two C+s) and a 2100 SAT. I was also an IB Diploma candidate, and my extracurriculars were mostly minor and theatre-related. I think it’s all about expressing why you really, truly want to go there and how Reed is the place for you.

I’d highly, highly recommend an interview, if you haven’t done one already. Best of luck!

Yes, you should apply. You will probably get accepted unlike me, who was deferred to regular admissions.
