...if you become successful and established? DO you see yourself contributing money to your school years after you graduate or not?

I can. This school has helped me out so much financially and I'm very thankful for that. Also, up until the end of the year, I never really appreciated the school. It took me being away from it now to realize how amazing my school is. So to answer my own question: yes, I can see myself contributing/donating money to my school in the future.

You’ll have plenty of chances to contribute to your school! They ask year after year after year… Now my son is going to my school as an OOS student, so they’re getting plenty of money from me.

I might, depending on how I’m doing financially at that point (depends on what I can get for a job and how much debt I have after grad school too!)

I was just thinking about this yesterday! I would definitely contribute to my school, because they have given me a LOT in terms of finances, so I hope to be able to donate back the full amount of my scholarship (assuming I am financially able). If for some reason I feel they shouldn’t get my money at the time, then I would want to set up a scholarship fund for a deserving student to keep the cycle going!

I don’t think so. My money is going to go toward really fast sports cars and hotties who can come over and spend a few hours at my place with me in the jacuzzi.

Yeah right. Why would I “give back” if I don’t owe them? You pay good money for college and in turn, gather knowledge and skills for a career. It sounds like a fair trade to me. Any extra money I give to my old college would just be a waste.

These schools that charge 200k for a run through college and STILL have the nerve to ask freshmen for $3000 donations in the middle of the school year …

Unless I become a trillionaire and get to have my name tacked onto a couple buildings, no. Don’t think so.

Only if I become successful because of my school. Otherwise I will scorn the school. People should only donate to the school if the school has helped them along the way, it’s like a thank you gift. If it hasn’t helped you get where you are I don’t think they deserve it because they failed their job.

My school is basically funding my entire education, so I can definitely see myself making regular donations in the future–to help other students get the same opportunities as me. But I’d have to donate something like $200k to repay Reed for my fin aid, and I can’t see myself ever making that sort of money.

As a graduate student, I make about $40k per year between stipend and free tuition. Given that I could be making at least $60k starting in industry, I feel like I’m giving $20k per year. I’m going to write the President for a letter of recognition.

So why waste that $20k? Drop out and make that $60k.

I will give back to my Residential College (not the U as a whole). It has given me a lot and it’s not a heavily supported area, so I would like to give other students the same opportunities I had.
