Willamette Decisions HS Class of 2014

Last year there was enough interest in Willamette to have a descion thread for Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. I thought I would see if there is this year. Maybe people could include decision, stats and liklihood of attending.

So here goes!

My D was accepted!

Early Action
1900 SAT
3.7 uw GPA (3.9 w)
Great EC and excellent essays
22K scholarship

Waiting to hear from a couple of other campuses but WU is a top contender.

D Accepted

Willamette Decision Entering Class of 2014

1840 SAT
3.8 uw GPA
Essays, Evaluations and EC - very good
15K scholarship

WU is a good school, very welcoming, D was not a big fan of Salem, Oregon, scholarship lower than expected. We shall see.

2000 SAT superscored, 1970 highest score
3.9 UW GPA, 4.17 W GPA
Essays and EC’s were good
Did not submit an evaluation
$23K scholarship

Absolutely ecstatic, and definitely willing to check the school out some more in the Spring if ED school doesn’t pull through.

S Accepted Early Action to Willamette Class of 2018

2210 SAT
3.97 GPA (unweighted), 4.18 (weighted)
Small charter high school
Good essays, evaluations, extracurriculars including forensics
$23,000 scholarship

Here’s hoping the need-based financial aid will be equally generous.

S was admitted EA. Thrilled! Beautiful campus and great people–we had a wonderful visit in July.
29 ACT (32 reading; 31 English; 10 essay–science score from 9/13 test brought composite down)
3.1 GPA UW (all honors classes, so 4.1 W GPA) at prestigious private school
Great recs, essay, and EC; summer employment; music; student leader
$13k/year merit aid (probably due to low GPA; we won’t qualify for FA)
Willamette is definitely on the top of his list–all other schools are RD so we have to wait.

D accepted

3.64 UW GPA, 4.1 weighted
ACT 30
1 AP (at her old school)
10 community college classes (4.0 average)
Middle college program… takes mostly CC classes junior and senior year
Essay strong but she’s written better. Recs I assume were excellent as they always are.
22K merit scholarship with encouragement to apply for a theatre one next month.

Willamette was low on the list but they’ve been very attentive and personal and thus rising in the ranks. She got a few phone calls and will be attending a local reception with alumni next month. The only one to send a personalized acceptance. They are certainly a favorite of where she’s been accepted so far. Might get bumped in March/April when other acceptances come in but we’ll see!

Accepted - sent in application 12/29, received decision 1/24

GPA 4.0 UW / 4.318 W
2280 SAT/34 ACT
23K merit scholarship

Son was accepted under Early Action, with $15k scholarship. His school does not weight GPA, but weighted is somewhere around 4.0; unweighted 3.4. Student Council VP; Co-President, Debating/Junior States; Co-President, Model UN. Community Service on Navajo Reservation in Arizona and inner-city Newark (NJ). NJ resident, attending private boarding school.

I sent in my RD application early in December, and I just got accepted today! I was really surprised to hear from Willamette so soon given that the RD deadline is still a few days away!

3.7 unweighted GPA, 3.9 weighted
1950 SAT superscored (670 CR, 670 M, 610 W)
28 ACT (didn’t send)
$21,000 annual merit scholarship

I really hope that Willamette can provide the rest of the financial aid I need!

Willamette just added an additional $5k to original $14k merit scholarship. We want to wait until we hear from Whitman and Reed before booking a flight to Portland in 2 weeks, but we hope to set it up in a couple of days.
